We’re thrilled to announce that Arts Council England have awarded us a grant of £59,000 from their Renaissance Strategic support fund towards our exciting World of Wallace project celebrating the centenary of Alfred Russel Wallace later this year! You can read their official announcement (and find out about the other recipients) on their website
We are absolutely delighted that Arts Council England have approved our application. The World of Wallace project will enable us to conserve and make accessible objects from our natural history collection and allow new audiences to engage with the legacy of Alfred Russel Wallace through objects, information and hands on interactives. Accredited museums with very limited resources will be able to share this high quality touring exhibition and resources for schools with their visitors and this funding ensures that all financial and logistical barriers removed. Thanks to the Arts Council, we will be able to share Wallace’s enormous contribution to Science and Geography with the rest of the country. (Sara Taylor- Curator)
Make sure you’re following us on twitter and facebook because we’ll be sharing more details of what’s to come over the next few months!
Another piece of good news we had this week was that our fantastic Front of House staff have been shortlisted for the Best Customer Service at the Museums and Heritage Awards! It’s going to cost £336 to send Julie & Holly to the awards which unfortunately we don’t have so we’re trying to raise the money in donations- if you can help PLEASE let us know!
Don’t forget our new exhibition Bengeo Stories is now open and, for the first time this year, there will also be cream teas, drinks and cakes served in the Andrews Room this Saturday 30th March from 11am – 4pm so we hope to see you soon.
