It might only be November but Christmas is approaching fast and with an exhibition and lots of Christmas activities coming up we’re already getting in a festive mood here at the museum!

Our Christmas exhibition A History of Christmas: Past, Present and Future opened on Saturday and there are already some great suggestions from our visitors of what Christmas might be like in the future (plus some interesting guesses at the scents in our Smelly Box) so make sure you pop in and learn where some of your favourite Christmas traditions come from!

The weather isn’t very Christmas-y right now but whether it’s rainbing, snowing or even clear & sunny this Friday is going to be a great evening in town as the Christmas light’s are switched on! As usual there will be lots happening at the museum so if you’re in town pop in for a glass of mulled wine or take part in some of our activities:

If you’re busy this weekend don’t worry! There’s plenty coming up at the museum before Christmas!
From 5th-8th December the museum has some very special visitors- the St Albans Cathedral Knitivity! These nativity figures were knitted by local knitter Ann Hudson and they’re perfectly toddler sized so come and see them in Hertford before they continue their travels around the diocese (St Albans Diocese covers the whole of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire so they might be popping up in all kinds of places)

While they’re at the museum we have two special activities. On Wednesday 5th December their creator Ann Hudson will be visiting for a special Knit & Natter session. Everyone’s welcome from seasoned knitters (bring your current project if you have one) to complete beginners and Ann will be on hand with help and advice. We’ll also have some of our toys and books out for any younger visitors who come as well.
Then on Saturday 8th December it’s time for our, always popular, Christmas Model Railway Day! Entry is FREE (though donations are welcome!) and there will be all your favourite festive railway layouts sprinkled with snow.
